Tao De Jing
client: self
project type: bookbinding
project format(s): book design
In this self-commissioned project I design and handmade a book of Tao De Jing by Lao Tze, a Chinese classic text which according to tradition was written around 6th century BC. The cover design reflects an insightful meaning of the book itself and the spreads layout stay clear but also connect with other visual elements of design, creating unity.

As the technique for bookbinding I have used perfect bound, which uses glue to hold pages together at the spine and hard cover to give book solid feel and for the second version I have used 'coptic stitch', non-adhesive, hand-sewn binding method which results in a book that can open flat.
